Neurological and Physiological Mechanisms

The therapeutic effect of sound is rooted in its ability to directly influence the body's nervous system and brainwave activity.

  • Brainwave Entrainment: Sound uses the principle of entrainment, where a rhythmic, external stimulus (like a consistent tone or beat) causes the brain's electrical activity to synchronize with that frequency. This is often used to shift the brain from active Beta states (14–30 Hz, alertness/stress) into calmer states:

    • Alpha (8–13 Hz): Associated with relaxed focus and inward attention.

    • Theta (4–8 Hz): Linked to deep meditation, creativity, and the border of sleep.

    • Delta (0.5–4 Hz): Deep sleep and cellular repair.
